Introduction

This is the long-awaited Volume 2 of Diary of a Bird Photographer - in September 2015 the authoritative Fatbirder UK reviewed Volume 1 and finished with 'I for one can't wait for Volume 2'.

Since 2002 Ian has sent a bird of the week email to a growing number of people, now about one thousand, around the world. Each email focuses on a particular species with beautiful photos and interesting facts about birds and their behaviour and life history presented in his clear and humorous style. Come with him as he travels in this volume to remote parts of mainland Australia, Tasmania, Macquarie, Norfolk and Lord Howe Islands, and to New Caledonia, New Zealand and its Sub-Antarctic Islands, Finland, Spain, Slovakia, Ireland, Dubai, California and Costa Rica in search of unusual and interesting birds.

This ebook compiles all the bird of the week instalments in the period 2010 to 2018. Over the years each bird of the week email has grown in content to a substantial pictorial essay in its own right - 241 in this volume. The result is a book of 130,000 words, equivalent to a large novel and 60% bigger than Volume 1, with over a thousand photos. It is designed for ease of use with alphabetic and taxonomic indices to all the species, links to additional photos on the birdway website and other relevant websites.

It is being published in three formats: epub for standard ebook readers such as Apple iBooks and Google Play; pdf for larger screens such as tablets and computers, and Kindle mobi for Kindle devices and ebook readers.
