Races vary in size and colour of iris, bill, legs and feet. Indo-Pacific race has orange-yellow iris and dark khaki legs and feet; Tasman race (breeds Lord Howe, Norfolk and Kermadec Is) is similar to Indo-Pacific race but has unique dark brown iris; nominate race (Carribean and Western Atlantic) is smaller with yellowish legs and feet.
