Digital Images

Digital images are offered at very competitive prices for editorial or commercial use in print or digital media. Prices are negotiable and depend on factors such as

type of use (advertisements, books, reports, brochures, posters, lectures, presentations, CDs and DVDs, etc);
size of print run;
image sizes.

Ian is prepared to provide discount prices for projects with limited funds that support conservation and/or education. Contact Ian with details of your image requirements, type of usage and project funding to get an obligation-free quote.

Files will be provided in the required format (eg tiff, jpeg) on CD-ROM, or, if file size permits, sent by email. Ian will also tailor images to the required size and resolution for no extra cost.

Prints

These gallery quality prints are:

printed on heavy, acid-free, archival matte paper
printed using durable, water-resistant, pigment-based inks
available in a range of standard sizes for inexpensive framing
available either mounted using acid-free matts and backs or unmounted.

Many of the photos have sufficient resolution and clarity for printing at A3 size. Please check with Ian before ordering prints of this size.

Prices include 10% Australian Goods and Services Tax (GST). Overseas orders do not attract GST. Instead the 10% margin is used to subside the cost of overseas airmail.

Ordering and Payment

Payment should be made in Australian Dollars by PayPal, cheque, money order, or internet transfer. If you choose internet transfer Ian will send the Birdway account details to you.

Order details should include

your name and postal address
proposed method of payment

For each print, specify :

the name of the bird species
the reference number**
size (A5, A4 or A3)
unmounted or mounted
if mounted, matt colour (default, dark blue, dark green, white or cream)
Any special requirements (eg. photo only without text )

**The photo reference number is the number that follows the species name below both the thumbnail and the enlarged image in the photo galleries (eg Orange-footed Scrubfowl 13205).

*Guarantee of Quality and Satisfaction

Only the best quality inks, paper and matt boards are used producing results as good or better than conventional photographic Silver Bromide prints and with a life expectancy of more than 75 years when kept under gallery conditions (out of direct sunlight and with conventional 2mm glass). Birdway guarantees satisfaction and will refund print costs or replace prints on their return.

Free Use of Images

Ian permits free use of photos for personal use only. Images may not be reproduced, digitally or in print, or transmitted to third parties. You may, of course, forward images to friends or family for their personal use. You may use images downloaded from the Birdway website on personal websites on two conditions:

You provide a live (clickable) link to http://www.birdway.com.au with the image

Ian gets frequent requests for free use of images and will agree to this under certain conditions. These conditions are:

Non-commercial use: the product must not be for sale;
The project should be unfunded;
The project supports conservation and/or education.

An unfunded project is one done by volunteer(s) without any financial support such as grants.

Modern bird photography is an expensive occupation in terms of photographic and digital equipment, software, internet access and website-hosting, fuel, time and effort. Ian considers it only fair that those who benefit from this photography should contribute towards defraying these expenses. Note, however, that Ian is prepared to offer substantial discounts for projects that support conservation and/or education and is sympathetic to projects with limited funding. Contact Ian with details of such projects for special consideration.

Image Size and Quality

The images on this site are rated to indicate a combination of sharpness and resolution as a measure of quality. The ratings used are:

A3 - 29.7cm x 42.0cm or 11.7in x 16.5in (two standard pages)
A4 - 21.0cm x 29.7cm or 8.3in x 11.7in (one standard page)
A5 - 14.9cm x 21.0cm or 6.9in x 8.3in (half standard page)

These ratings are based on a minimum resolution in the raw images of 200dpi with sufficient sharpness to be printed, if required, at 400dpi, the resolution used by Ian in his prints.
