Non-Australian Galleries are progressive being updated to conform with
the Birdlife International check list. 8 February 2008.
Following the publication of the latest work on the taxonomy of
Australian Birds, Christidis & Boles (2008), Australian Galleries are progressively being
updated to match their classification (this will take a long time!). This sometimes means
that the sequence may vary between the Non-Australian and Australian
gallery thumbnails (e.g. Global and Australian Herons) and some species may be assigned to
two genera, with the Birdlife International one being listed first and
the Christidis & Boles one second (e.g. Cattle Egret Bubulcus/Ardea ibis). 21 November 2007. A
photo of a distant Cinnamon Quail-thrush is the 500th Australian species in the site. 2 November 2007. Ian has
introduced a new gallery design which has Check out the Royal Spoonbill Gallery to see what you think. 2 August 2007. Ian now
encourages free use of images on personal and conservation-related
websites in exchange
for links. Photographs are
organized by geographical regions - where the species occur rather than
where the photos were taken. The main emphasis is on birds which occur
in Australia but there are also sections on Asian, European and North
and South American
Birds. You can browse the list of galleries in each section. The photos in this site
are from high-resolution originals suitable for printing.
